Emerald City

It is known that the concentration of photosynthetic algae is high near the shore, and goes down as one moves further into the waters. There are two different species of underwater non-algal organisms - Beachus closus (lives near the shore) and Marinus horizonii (lives farther from the shore). Both of them have a single type of photoreceptor that is sensitive to intensity of light for a very small range of wavelengths. How would the Wavelength ranges differ for the two species?
